FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The following questions and answers will, hopefully, cover any questions of your own.  If you still don't see your answers here, please write to xponderman@gmail.com and we will add it to this list.  Thank you.

Q.  Does your repair of my transponder satisfy the requirements of the required biennial transponder certification ?

A.  Probably NOT.  F.A.R. 91.413 says that your transponder SYSTEM must be certified every 2 years in order to be USED in the radar control environment.  This includes your airplane, its power supplies, the antenna, coaxial wire, static system, etc.  This presumes a ramp check.

Q.  How long before I receive my unit back from your shop ?

A.  Our lead time usually runs less than 5 working days after received by us.

Q.  Does your work come with a warranty ?

A.  Absolutely !  Our parts and labor are warranted for 90 days after shipping.

Q.  Do you repair "Brand X" transponders ?

A.  In the past 3 years, we have not seen a panel-mount transponder that we cannot service.  We maintain an extensive library of repair manuals and bench harnesses that cover virtually all popular units.  We do not service military or airline-type equipment.

Q.  My transponder is less than one month old and has already failed.  My Dealer says it will take a minimum of 30 days to repair.  Can you do it in your normal 5 days ?

A.  We can, but we recommend you use your factory warranty.  We do not sell new transponders and we do not do warranty work.

Q.  My local avionics shop charged me $255.00 and told me my transponder needed a complete new digital logic board assembly.  Do you think you can repair it for the minimum charge of $109.00 ?

A.  IF  (and we cannot be certain without seeing it)  your local shop's diagnosis is correct, probably not.  See the above page "The Fine Print" for exceptions.  Most of the new units use an LSI integrated-circuit logic board that is replaceable only as a unit.
